It has come to our attention that a number of our customers have been having difficulty with the BBC iPlayer, however most of the issues seem to stem from the use of the Flash plug-in.

Because of this, we highly recommend that you try switching from Flash to the HTML5 based BBC iPlayer instead.

To switch over to the BBC's HTML5 player, please visit the link below and click on the top right hand side of the page to opt in:

Please note that there are certain circumstances that will prevent you from using the HTML5 player, such as by using an incompatible browser or platform.

Just as a note, moving forward, we will be seeing more TV services on the web transition to HTML5 from third-party plugins such as Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, etc.

At the time of writing, the BBC HTML5 player is still in the Beta stage, and will work with the following platforms and browsers:

Platforms:

Mac OS X

Windows 10

Browsers:

Google Chrome

Firefox 43

Opera 32

Internet Explorer 11

Microsoft Edge

Note: While other browsers and browser versions may work with the HTML5 based BBC iPlayer, the browsers above have been tested and are expected to work without any major issues.

As the service is still in Beta, you may receive an error requesting you to try another browser.

At this point, the following browsers and their specific platforms do not work with the HTML5 version of iPlayer:

Internet Explorer on Windows 8.1

Safari 9 or below on Mac OS X

Opera on Mac OS X 10.8 or above

Opera on Windows XP or above

Firefox on Windows XP or above

Windows Phone 8.1 or above

Android 4.3 or above

Samsung stock browser on Android devices
