The instructions below were created using Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 (Android Honeycomb 3.2)  but the principles should apply to most Android systems 3.2 and above.

PPTP VPN setup on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) TouchWiz

PPTP VPN setup for Android Lollipop (5.x) and Marshmallow (6.x)


To set up the connection, go into Settings Wireless and Network and then tap on VPN Settings.




Tap on Add VPN




Choose Add PPTP VPN.




Ensure the settings are as below:




VPN name : MPN GBR


Set VPN server : gbr.mypn.co


Tick the Enable Encryption box. 


Leave the DNS Search Domains option empty.




Press the Menu key and then Save.


If you are trying to connect to our USA based service, please change the description accordingly (i.e. MPN USA) and change the servername to be usa.mypn.co

Tap on the VPN to connect. 



On older version Android such as this, you will be prompted to create a credential storage password if you hadn't done so. This is a password to protect the saved credentials on your device. For most users, this is simply a pain but Android forces you to set it up anyway.


It has to be 8 characters long, so if you are not paranoid about security, we would simply suggest you use 'qqqqqqqq', that being the simplest thing!


Enter it twice, this is now your Android credential password.




It will now prompt you to enter your My Private Network Username and Password; these are the details that you have registered with us.



Enter your username and password, Tap on the Remember user name check box and then Connect.


Hopefully, at this point it should connect to the VPN.


Once connected, you will see a key logo in the bottom right hand corner of your device.


Once you see that, you can open the browser and go to https://www.my-private-network.co.uk/ipinfo.html to confirm your location or straight to the site of your choice.



Problems?


Unfortunately, it does not always go to plan!


If it does not connect, please try rebooting your Internet router (if you are using one) and also completely power off your device and then switch it back on.


Failing that, the other method of connecting to our service is to use the L2TP protocol. We have prepared some instructions which will guide you through the setup on your Android device using L2TP protocol, they can be found on the following link: Android L2TP Setup. 


Please note that this version of Android (3.2.x) does not allow you to save your password, which will rapidly become a major pain.


One of the work around is a utility called 5 VPN, which you can download from the Google Play Store. This allows you to save your password and you can then connect the VPN in 5 Taps, hence the name. It's not that impressive but it does save you from the trouble of re-entering your password!
